Homosassa RV fires extinguished; 2 residents and 2 dogs escaped, but a kitten perished

Homosassa, Florida - at 9:33 am on Wednesday, Feb. 3, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to W. Erlen Ln. in Homosassa due to the report of a recreaional vehicle (RV) fire. Fire rescue quickly determined that the correct location of the RV fire was on W. Park Dr. in Homosassa, and at 9:42 am, the Engine 3 crew from Homosassa Fire Station arrived first on scene to find one RV fully involved with fire and a second RV 25% involved with fire.
The two occupants in one of the RVs were able to safely escape with two dogs; but a kitten that bystaders were unable to rescue from the RV was later buried on scene by fire crews. No other injuries were reported.
The fire was called under control at 9:56 am, and crews cleared the scene at 11:31 am. Both RVs were a total loss. The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office arrived on scene to investigate the fire, and the Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance to the two displaced residents and their two dogs.
Other fire stations and personnel that responded to assist with the fire included a Safety Captain, Battalion Chief 1, Chief 3, Engine 18 from Sugarmill Woods Fire Station, and Rescue 7 from Connell Heights Fire Station.
