313-acre wildfire extinguished, Jan. 6, in Withlacoochee Forest, Citrus Tract

Citrus County, Florida - At 11:49 am on Wednesday, Jan. 6, smoke was spotted between Trail 13 an Trail 16 of the Citrus County Tract of the Withlacoochee Forest, by a pilot with the Florida Forest Service (FFS) Withlacoochee Forestry Center as he conducted a daily search. At 2:08 pm firefighters were working to contain a 150 acre wildfire, with no structures threatened by the fire. By 3:04 pm, the fire was 50% contained, and a Burn Out Operation was conducted (the fire was set inside a control line to widen it or consume fuel between the edge of the fire and the control line). At 4:40 pm, the fire was 100% contained and involved 313 acres. The cause of the fire was unknown at the time of the fire.
