Inverness home destroyed by early morning, Jan. 2, fire

Citrus County Fire Rescue

Inverness, Florida - At 5:58 am on Saturday, Jan. 2, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to an E. McCartney Loop, Inverness residence, due to the report of a fire.      

The Engine 8 crew from the Highlands Fire Station arrived first on scene at 6:08 am to find an approximately 1,000 square foot residence fully involved with fire that was coming through the roof. Firefighters initiated a defensive attack of the fire. The crew was informed that all residents and pets had safely exited the home. 

Additional units that arrived on scene were rotated to provide the water supply and protection to nearby structures and vehicles. Once the fire was under control, crews made entry to confirm that no one remained inside the home.    

The fire was called under control at 6:20 am, and crews cleared the scene at 10:49 am. No injuries were reported. The Florida State Fire Marshal responded to investigate the fire, and the power company arrived on scene to disconnect the power.  

Other fire stations and personnel that assisted with the fire included Battalion Chief 1, Engine 5 from Hernando, Engine 23 from Kensington, Engine 24 from Floral City, Tanker 7 from Connell Heights, and the Rehab Unit from Citrus Springs.
