Crystal River kitchen fire likely started by new air fryer

Crystal River, Florida - At 3:03 am on Sunday, Dec. 27, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a N. Whitewater Terrace, Crystal River residence with the report of a fire.
The Rescue 7 crew from the Connell Heights Fire Station and Battalion Chief 2 arrived first on scene at 3:12 am to find an approximately 1,000 square foot single wide mobile home with fire and smoke showing from a window. The power was immediately disconnected. The occupants on scene informed firefighters that all of the occupants had safely exited the residence. Crew members made entry through the front door and learned that the fire was confined to the kitchen, and it was quickly brought under control.
According to fire rescue, the fire started on the kitchen counter near the stove. The occupants told firefighters that they had just finished cooking with their new air fryer for the first time, and within minutes heard a loud noise in the kitchen and found the kitchen on fire. A heavily damaged air fryer was found on top of the stove, with several pieces in the sink..
The fire was called under control at 3:21 am, and crews cleared the scene at 4:38 am. No injuries were reported. The power company was contacted to secure the power. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the two adult occupants, and family members arrived on scene to assist the occupants with a place to stay for the night.
Other fire stations that responded to assist with the fire included Engine 9 from DeRosa, Engine 3 from Homosassa, and Tanker 20 from Pine Ridge.
