Man and two dogs found deceased in N. Wahoo Trl., Dunnellon house fire

Citrus County, Florida -  At 10:29 am on Saturday, October 24, 2020, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a structure fire at a double wide mobile home located in the 11000 block of N. Wahoo Trail in Dunnellon, FL. The Engine 9 crew from DeRosa Fire Station arrived first on scene to find heavy fire and smoke. 

Due to reports of a person possibly being inside, crew members made entry into the home and conducted an offensive attack, knocking down heavy fire in the roof area. The body of a 49 year-old man, later identified as Steven Michael Maurer, was located and removed from the residence. A secondary search was conducted, and two deceased dogs were also found inside of the home. No additional injuries or caualties were reported. 

The power was secured, and firefighting efforts continued. The fire was determined to be under control at 11:12 am, and crews cleared the scene at 2:52 pm. The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the fire.

Other firestations that responded to assist with the fire included Engine 14 from Citrus Springs, Engine 20 from Pine Ridge, Rescue 7 from Connell Heights, and Tanker 5 from Hernando.
