Lightning sparks house fire in Crystal River; no injuries; dog rescued from porch

Crystal River, Florida – At 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) was dispatched to a residence, located on W. Jehle Court in Crystal River, due to a reported fire.
Firefighters arrived at the home to find heavy smoke coming from the eaves of a two-story, 3,400 square-foot manufactured, wood-frame home.
A neighbor had safely led the homeowner away from the home, The homeowner’s dog, found on the porch, was moved to safety.
A Citrus County Sheriff’s Office deputy reported having heard a lightning strike just before discovering smoke and fire near the kitchen and laundry room of the home.
A hose line was quickly deployed through the front door to attack the fire, while a fire engine connected to a nearby hydrant to provide water. A second hose line was deployed to the rear of the home to assist with fire suppression.
Fire rescue teams checked on the homeowner and provided rehabilitation for fire crews.
The fire was brought under control by 4:28 p.m., preventing it from spreading throughout the home. Fire crews completed a search of the home, performed overhaul to ensure no hot spots remained, and worked to salvage belongings for the homeowner, where possible. The last unit cleared the scene at 8:20 p.m.
The power company disconnected the home's electricity, and the American Red Cross was contacted to assist the homeowner.
No injuries were reported.
