Homosassa, Florida – At 10:04 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to Sun Retreats Homosassa River, an RV resort located 10200 W. Fishbowl Drive in Homosassa, Florida, due to a reported fire.

Firefighters arrived a the location to find smoke showing from the exterior of 38-foot park model travel trailer.

Firefighters immediately secured the utilities, and inside the camper, encountered heavy smoke conditions. The source of the heat was found in the master bedroom, where a breaker box was actively smoldering.

The fire was quickly extinguished by the Homosassa fire station crew. Ventilation was conducted with the assistance of the Connell Heights fire station crew. All other units were canceled, due to the fire being quickly brought under control. The last unit cleared the scene at 10:52 p.m.

An investigation revealed that a water leak near the bathroom had reached the electrical breaker box, which had caused electrical arcing that had ignited the fire. No smoke detectors were noted in the camper.

Damages to the camper and its contents were estimated at approximately $15,000.

No injuries were reported.

The occupants of the camper informed fire rescue personnel that they planned to contact the RV park's management to obtain alternate accommodations. Although a dispatcher attempted to contact RV park managerment, no local contact was available at the time, so fire rescue left a message that provided information about the incident to RV park officials.
