Explosions reported in Citrus Springs shed fire determined accidental by State Fire Marshal
Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)
Citrus Springs, Florida – At 10:12 a.m. on Saturday morning, May 10, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a location on North Oberon Terrace in Citrus Springs, due to a 911 caller reporting a propane tank explosion, followed by another caller who reported hearing multiple explosions.
A crew arrived on scene to find a 10 foot by 10 foot shed fully involved in flames, with the fire spreading to unspecified materials nearby and a PVC fence, and causing exterior damage to the homeowner’s residence. Firefighters quickly deployed hand lines to extinguish the blaze and prevent further damage. Another crew assisted with fire suppression and confirmed there was no extension of fire into the interior of the home with the damaged exterior.
A Battalion Chief spoke with the homeowner and learned that the shed was not connected to electricity and contained no known sources of fire ignition or hazardous materials. Given the caller reports of explosions and the absence of an obvious cause, the Florida State Fire Marshal was contacted. The fire marshal determined from information given over the phone that the fire was accidental, without responding to the fire location to evaluate the fire.
The property loss was estimated at $4,500.
No injuries were reported.
IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE, CALL 9-1-1.
