Lightning strike ignites fire of unoccupied mobile home at Family Home Center of Homosassa
Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)
Homosassa, Florida – At 5:37 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to the Family Home Center of Homosassa, located at 1485 S. Suncoast Blvd., due to a reported fire during a severe thunderstorm with intense lightning activity.
First-arriving crews found heavy fire and smoke in the attic of a double-wide manufactured home on the sales lot. The structure, which was unoccupied and listed for sale, had no electrical power connected to it. The fire crew began defensive operations until additional crews arrived, then transitioned to an offensive strategy.
Teams entered the mobile home through both ends, to suppress flames and pull ceilings in order to extinguish hidden fire in the attic. The layout of the display home, which was split into two halves with a narrow separation, presented access challenges for interior crews.
The fire was knocked down by 6:23 p.m., and the last unit cleared the scene at 8:28 p.m. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire has been ruled unintentional, and as the result of a lightning strike during the storm.
The estimated loss is approximately $210,000.
