Floral City, Florida – At at 7:14 a.m. on Saturday morning, March 22, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a home located on S. Spoonbill Ave. in Floral City, due to a reported fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene at 7:19 a.m. to find a single-wide mobile home fully engulfed in flames.

A fire captain conducted a 360-degree walk-around and noted that the power to the home appeared to be disconnected, and the fire was creeping toward a large shed located nearby.

At 7:21 a.m., water was applied to both the mobile home and the shed, and the fire was brought under control by 7:31 a.m.

Searches of the home located no residents inside the home. A neighbor informed firefighters that the homeowner had recently been placed into a nursing home. The power company secured the power at the meter.

At approximately 8:15 a.m., personnel from the oncoming shift arrived at the scene to relieve the on-duty crews, continuing mop-up and overhaul operations, after which they cleared the scene.

Later in the day, about 3:26 p.m., the Floral City Fire Station 24, received a report that smoke was coming from the location of the earlier fire. Firefighters arrived at the location to find that a small section of the subfloor was still smoldering with minor flames. Crews quickly extinguished the remaining hot spots. The incident was determined to be a rekindling of the earlier fire, and no further hazards were found. No injuries were reported.

Citrus County Fire Rescue reminds residents to practice fire safety, and to also report any visible smoke or signs of a fire rekindling following extinguishment.

This incident remains under investigation.
