Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)
Lecanto, Florida – At 5:34 pm on Friday, January 24, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence on N. Manor Way due to a report of a fire at a residence in which an occupant was unable to move from the area of the fire.
The first-arriving unit observed no visible signs of fire from the street, and the occupant was found inside the home with minor injuries. The resident was provided with the appropriate medical care.
The fire originated from a propane grill on the rear patio and was contained to the immediate area. Crews found that fire was emanating from under the grill deck inside the bottom enclosure, and a hose line was used to control the flames.
Due to fire damage, the grill’s propane tank control valve could not be closed. The tank was safely removed from the grill and cooled while the residual propane was allowed to burn off under controlled conditions. The fire was fully extinguished, and the propane tank was safely expelled. The last unit cleared the scene at 6:29 pm.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office was notified due to the injury.
Property damage was estimated at approximately $800, limited to the grill and surrounding area.
Citrus County Fire Rescue cautions residents to exercise caution when using propane grills. Always ensure that propane tanks and valves are in proper working condition, and maintain a safe distance between grills and combustible materials. If you experience a fire involving a propane grill or tank, do not attempt to move the tank or extinguish the fire yourself - immediately call 911 and evacuate the area.
IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE, CALL 9-1-1.
