Lecanto barn significantly damaged by fire, potentially caused by electrical wiring

Lecanto, Florida – At 9:06 pm on Tuesday night, January 14, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) was dispatched to a barn, located on W. Horace Allen Street in Lecanto, due to a reported fire. 

The first unit arrived on the scene at 9:14 pm to find e 50-foot by 100-foot pole barn 50% involved in fire. Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack to prevent further damage. The fire was brought under control at 9:18. Fire crews completed mop-up operations, and the last unit cleared the scene at 10:47 pm.

The homeowner reported hearing an explosion before discovering the fire, which appears to have originated near an electrical outlet in the barn. A preliminary investigation made note of a significant amount of homemade electrical wiring throughout the structure.

The barn and its contents sustained an estimated $35,000 in damages. 

No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters.
