Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)
Inverness, Florida – At 3:40 pm on Tuesday afternoon, January 14, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a residence located on S. Creason Terrace in Inverness, due to reports of smoke coming from the porch.
Firefighters arrived at the location to find that deputies had already used a fire extinguisher to suppress the flames. To ensure the fire was fully extinguished and to prevent the flamed from reigniting, firefighters used a water hose to cool the smoldering porch and also removed charred boards.
The fire was contained to a 5-foot by 10-foot section of the porch, with damages estimated at $1,000. The last unit cleared the scene at 5:14 pm.
The investigation revealed that the fire originated from a bag of trash ignited on the porch. A tenant initially believed the fire would extinguish itself, but instead, the situation escalated. The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office was consulted and determined that there was no willful intent to start the fire.
An inspection of the home’s interior revealed no working smoke alarms. Following safety protocols, fire crews installed a smoke alarm to improve fire safety. Working smoke alarms are essential for early fire detection; they can save lives. Citrus County Fire Rescue encourages all residents to regularly check and maintain their smoke alarms.
During the fire response, one person at the scene reported that they were experiencing a medical issue. Fire Rescue personnel provided care on scene to ensure the person's well-being.
