The #5 Fire Station from Hernando was first to arrive on scene at 9:19 a.m., to find a 1,200 square-foot double wide mobile home fully involved with fire that was driven by strong winds. Flames were threatening a nearby camper, oak trees, and power lines, and downed power lines were down on the side of the property.
The single occupant of the nearby camper was safely evacuated from the camper.
Initial suppression efforts included the use of a master stream and handlines for defensive operations. Power to the site was secured by utility crews. The site was turned over to the Florida State Fire Marshal, who had been summoned due to statements made by witnesses indicating potential foul play, which was not specified in the CCFR press release. Law enforcement personnel secured the property for further investigation.
The structure was determined a total loss due to the extensive damages from the intense fire. No injuries were reported to civilians or first responders.
