Beverly Hills, Florida – About 8:40 pm on Thursday, October 3, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence located on S. Barbour St. in Beverly Hills due to a reported fire.
First responders arrived on scene to find an approximately 1200 square feet home with heavy smoke showing from all sides. An offensive attack was initiated on the fire. Significant fire activity was seen on the corner of the residence. An aggressive interior attack was also initiated. Searches found no occupants inside the home. The interior crews ensured complete extinguishment of the fire and also mop-up operations. The exterior fire included a passenger van parked outside the residence. Investigators learned that the homeowner had been on the front porch when he smelled smoke, and when he entered the home, he saw smoke and flames in one of the bedrooms. At the same time, a second occupant exited the structure, yelling that she had also noticed smoke.
The power company confirmed that the property had been without power for an extended period due to a feeder line being cut and stored by the power company. The State Fire Marshal was contacted to assist in the ongoing investigation.
