Dog rescued and occupant hospitalized due to smoke inhalation from Inverness home fire

Inverness, Florida – About 10:35 am on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a home on S. Eaton Terrace in Inverness due to a reported fire.

First responders arrived on scene to find an approximately 1,800 square foot, single story residence with smoke showing from the eaves and front door.

The homeowner and two neighbors were in the driveway with a dog and said that another dog one was still trapped inside in a bedroom. The dog was located under a window in the master bedroom. The dog was quickly transferred to rescue personnel to receive supplemental oxygen and other support.

The fire was located in the dining room and involved a kitchen hutch and table. It was quickly extinguished. The fire was under control at 10:48 am.

The power was secured. A second search of the residence turned up no other people or animals inside the home. The last unit cleared the scene at 2:20pm.

The occupant of the residence was transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Victim advocate services were requested to assist the family.

The estimated loss from the fire is approximately $15,000.

Firefighters from the Hernando, Highlands and Floral City fire stations responded to the scene, along with a rescue unit.
