Firefighters quickly contain shed fire in Homosassa caused by battery charging; no injuries reported

Homosassa, Florida — At 1:43 pm on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to S. High Ridge Terrace in Homosassa, due to a reported shed fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find a shed, approximately 10 feet by 20 feet in size, that was 50% involved in flames that had spread to a second shed, approximately 14 feet by 20 feet in size, that was 25% involved.in flames. The fire threatened other nearby structures. Searches revealed no additional fire hazards or people in danger.
The fire was deemed under control at 2:03 pm. Power to the structure was secured by the power company. The cause of the fire was determined accidental. Damages were estimated at approximately $20,000.
No injuries were reported.
The homeowner reported that the fire started while they were charging a battery in the shed. When they returned to the shed to check on the progress of the battery charging, they discovered it had caught fire, and called for assistance.
Firefighters from the Connell Heights, Homosassa, Sugarmill Woods and Kensington fire stations responded to the scene, along with a safety captain, and two rescue units.
