Citrus County Fire Rescue
Homosassa, Florida — At 1:30 pm on Saturday, June 22, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence located on S. Stonebrook Dr. in Homosassa due to a reported electrical fire.
Firefighters arrived at the location to find a light haze of smoke coming from a single-story mobile home, but no visible signs of fire from the outside.
A battalion chief determined that the fire was an electrical fire that had already been extinguished and had originated behind the clothes dryer.
Inside the residence was a light haze of smoke and an electrical smell. None of the smoke detectors in the home were activated. Firefighters found a melted outlet and dryer plug behind the dryer, which was still hot to the touch. The dryer breaker had already tripped. The crew removed the dryer plug and confirmed there were no further hazards. Fire crews promptly set up ventilation to clear the smoke.
At the homeowner’s request, the crew switched off the main breaker. The homeowner was advised to have a licensed electrician evaluate the electrical system for safety.
The last unit cleared the scene at 1:50 pm, and the property was turned over to the owner.
Damages were estimated at $1,500.
