Vacant mobile home on W. Palmetto St. in Homosassa, FL damaged by fire

Homosassa, Florida — At 1:43 pm on Thursday, June 6, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) responded to a residence located on W. Palmetto St. in Homosassa, due to a reported fire.
Firefighters arrived at the location to find a double wide mobile home, fully engulfed in fire. A defensive attack was initiated, and the home was searched for occupants; none were found. The fire was brought under control. Mop-up and overhaul procedures were conpleted by 3:56 pm. Duke Energy promptly arrived on scene to ensure safety measures were in place. Despite the intensity of the fire, no injuries were reported.
Officials learned that the property had been unoccupied for several months. After firefighters completed their duties, the property was transitioned back to the owner, who confirmed that their residence was at a different location. The cause of the fire was undetermined at the time of the press release.
Firefighters from the Homosassa Trail, Sugarmill Woods, Kensington, Rock Crusher, Hernando and Pine Ridge fire stations arrived on scene, along with a Battalion Chief and a Safety Captain.
