Inverness home fire under investigation

Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)

Inverness, Florida —  At 5:03 pm on Sunday, March 17, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence on S. Shady Terrace in Inverness, Florida due to a reported structure fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find a double wide mobile home approximately 25% involved with fire showing from a corner of the residence, and heavy smoke showing from the entire residence. 

A 360-degree inspection of the property was conducted with no additional significant hazards identified. Fire personnel entered the structure to conduct fire extinguishment activities, while others conducted searches to find no one inside. The power company secured the power at the breaker.  

The fire was brought under control as of 5:33 pm.  After overhaul and mop up, the last unit cleared the scene at 7:55 pm. No injuries were reported. The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office arrived on scene to conduct an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. Damages were estimated at $67,000.  Assistance was requested for the occupants.

Firefighters from the Hernando, Highlands, Floral City, Kensington, Connell Heights, and Pine Ridge fire stations arrived on scene, along with the Inverness Fire Department, a safety captain, and a rescue unit.
