Homosassa vehicle fire extends to shed and residence

Citrus County Fire Rescue 

Homosassa, Florida — At 11:04 pm on Thursday, February 1, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded   to S. Mindy Pt. in Homosassa due to a reported shed fire. 

Firefighters arrived at the address to find a vehicle and a shed, both fully involved with fire, that had extended to the mobile home on the property. They initiated an offensive atack on the fire, and the power was secured at the utility pole, by way of a breaker panel, until power company employees arrived on scene. Fire personnel made entry into the residence and began fire suppression activities, while  other firefighters extinguished the shed and vehicle fire and protected nearby exposures.

Searches were also conducted, with no one found inside the residence. Additional incoming units assisted with the water supply and mop up, once the fire was under control at 11:32 pm. After the overhaul and mop up, the last unit cleared the scene at 1:02 am (Feb. 2).

The homeowner told firefighters that she was asleep and awakened by the sounding of the fire alarm, that when she looked outside, she saw that the vehicle was on fire, and the fire was beginning to spread to the shed.       

No injuries were reported. Assistance was requested for the mobile home occupants. Damages were estimated at approximately $42,000.  

Firefighters from the Connell Heights, Homosassa, Sugarmill Woods, Kensington, Highlands and Pine Ridge fire stations arrived on scene, along with a rescue unit.
