Beverly Hills home struck by lightning; fire contained to attic area

Citrus County Fire Rescue
Lecanto, Florida - At 5:55 pm on Monday, August 24, 2020, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a residential structure fire on W. Elm Blossom St. in Beverly Hills.
Firefighters arrived on scene at 6:01 pm to find an approximately 4,000 square foot, 2-story home with a large hole in the second-floor roof, with smoke and flames showing. The homeowners advised firefighters that everyone was out of the structure.
Crews worked with tarps and water cans to make access and carefully remove the ceiling drywall to avoid further damage. They were able quickly locate and extinguish the fire, with no smoke or fire damage to the interior living area.
Crews isolated and secured the power and cleaned up debris. The fire was under control at 6:28 pm. Firefighters cleared the scene at 7:01 pm. The homeowners required no asssitance from the Amercan Red Cross. No injuries were reported. Damage was determined to be structural only, and estimated at approximately $10,000.
