Citrus County Fire Rescue

Beverly Hills, Florida — At 8:23 pm on Thursday, January 4, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence located on S. Adams St. in Beverly Hills, due to a reported structure fire. Firefighters arrived on scene to find an approximately 2,000 square foot residence, with light smoke showing.

Upon arrival, a 360-degree inspection of the residence was conducted by command, while personnel from Pine Ridge’s Engine 20 entered the home.

A Citrus County Sheriff's Office deputy on scene informed command that he'd gone inside the home, and the fire appeared to be extinguished, and all of the occupants had exited the residence, with the exception of five cats still inside the home.

Personnel from Kensington’s Ladder 23 unit located and retrieved all five cats from the home, and Pine Ridge’s Rescue 20 unit provided them with care. Three of the cats were revived, and two perished.

Power was secured at the interior breaker, and the homeowners were informed that the power was to remain off until inspected and deemed safe by a licensed electrician.

Fire personnel completed fire extinguishment and confirmed there was no further extension of fire, and no further fire hazards were identified. The structure was ventilated. Smoke damage was found throughout the residence; however, the fire damage was contained to the kitchen. The fire was brought under control as of 8:34 pm. After overhaul and mop up, the last unit cleared the scene at 9:53 pm.

No injuries were reported.  It is believed that the fire was accidental and started in the kitchen. Damages were estimated at $51,475. The homeowners declined further assistance.

Fire units from the Hernando, Pine Ridge, Kensington, and Connell Heights fire stations arrived on scene, along with a safety captain and a rescue unit.
