Homosassa, Florida — At 6:26 am on Monday, January 1, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a location on W. Heritage Dr. in Homosassa, due to a reported camper fire.

Firefighters arrived at the address to find a 32-foot, pull behind camper, fully involved with flames, that had extended to a double wide mobile. The mobile home was approximately 10% involved with fire.

Fire rescue established an offensive fire attack, applying water on the camper and the exterior of the mobile home. Fire personnel transitioned to the interior of the mobile home, to prevent the fire from extending further into the residence. When the mobile home fire was extinguished in the mobile home, crews exited the residence and continued extinguishing the camper fire.

Due to a downed power line at the corner of the structure, firefighters requested that the power company respond to the location for assistance. Incoming fire units continued extinguishment and mop up operations and searched for potential occupants, and none were found.

The fire was brought under control by 6:45 am. After overhaul and mop up, the last unit cleared the scene at 7:51 am.

The homeowner was contacted by fire personnel and advised fire personnel that the camper was hooked up to power and was occupied. However, the occupant was not on the property at the time of the fire.
No injuries were reported. Damages were estimated at $25,500. Assistance was requested for the homeowner.

Firefighters from the Connell Heights, Sugarmill Woods, Pine Ridge, Kensington, Hernando, and Citrus Springs fire stations responded to the scene, along with a rescue unit.
