Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)
Inverness, Florida — At 3:16 am on Sunday, December 24, 2023, Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) responded to a E. North St., Inverness residence due to a reported fire. Firefighters arrived at the home to find a single wide mobile home with no smoke or fire showing.
A resident of the home informed firefighters that the fire had already been extinguished. He said he'd awakened in his bedroom to find his infant child crying, that he smelled smoke, and could see smoke coming from the wall. He said he'd used a garden hose to extinguish the fire.
Fire crews exposed the wall in question to find significant burning within the wall. Firefighters determined that electrical wiring was the cause of the fire. The power was disconnected from the residence, and smoke alarms were installed for the occupants. The fire was brought under control as of 3:23 am. After overhaul and mop up, the last unit cleared the scene at 4:10 am.
No injuries were reported. Damages were estimated at $2,000. Assistance was requested for the occupants.
Firefighters from the Hernando and Kensington fire stations arrived on scene, along with a rescue unit
