Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)

Homosassa, Florida — At 10:30 pm on Saturday, December 23, 2023, Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCDR) responded to a residence located on W. Drover St. in Homosassa due to a reported residential fire. On  arrival, firefighters found an approximately 1,800 square feet, single-story home, approximately 50% involved with fire, with flames coming through the roof of the attached garage, with some extension into the main house.  

Firefighters conducted an offensive attack. During a 360-degree inspection of the residence, firefighters were unable to locate an exterior breaker panel or determine if the home was occupied, and the power was still active. Fire personnel made entry into the residence to conduct fire supression and to search for occupants, and it appeared that the residence was unoccupied. The fire was located primarily in the garage, with some fire extension into the main residence, contained within the kitchen area. The power company arrived on scene to secure the power. The fire was brought under control as of 11:13 pm. After overhaul and mop up, the last unit cleared the scene at 2:05 am.

No injuries were reported. Damages were estimated at $156,000. The fire is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office.  

Firefighters from the Connell Heights, Homosassa, Sugarmill Woods, Kensington, Highlands, and Pine Ridge fire statios responded to the fire, along with a safety captain, and a rescue unit.
