Inverness, Florida — At 11:59 pm on Friday, November 24, 2023, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence on E. Mercury St. in Inverness due to a report of a fire. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a single wide mobile home fully involved with flames. All occupants had safely evacuated themselves from the home.

A defensive fire attack was established, an inspection of the property was conducted, and the power was secured. Firefighters provided protection for two vehicles that had sustained minor burn damage to the front bumpers and lights. The fire was brought under control as of 12:10 am. After overhaul and mop up, the last unit cleared the scene at 2:14 am. The residence was a total loss.

No injuries were reported. The residents were provided with victim assistance services.

A resident of the home told firefighters they had a recreational fire on the front porch, earlier in the evening, and believed the fire was extinguished before they'd turned in for the night. He said he'd awakened later to find the front porch area on fire.
