Floral City, Florida - At 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence on E. Atkinson Ct. in Floral City due to the report of a structure fire.
Deputies arrived on scene to find an approximately 2,600 square foot, two-story wooden home approximately 50% involved with fire. A crew from Floral City quickly began fire extinguishment on the first and second floor of the residence, and a rescue unit from Floral City assumed patient care for three patients on scene.
An inspection of the residence and property was conducted, and the power was secured. Due to the location, incoming units were advised to stage on the road. A water group was established to shuttle water to the primary engine on scene so that fire extinguishment could be continued.
The fire on the first floor had been extinguished, but heavy fire remained on the second floor. Extinguishment of the second floor was continued from the exterior, and a search of the first floor was completed with no one found inside. Once the fire was under control, another search was conducted, again with no one found inside.
All of the home's occupants had been able to exit the residence, although one occupant received non-life threatening injuries while exiting the residence, which required non-emergent transportation to a local hospital. The other two occupants received minor injuries and refused transportation for medical care.
The fire was brought under control as of 5:54 pm. After overhaul and mop up, the last unit cleared the scene at 9:50 pm.
Damages were estimated at $286,073. The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office arrived on scene to investigate the fire. All occupants declined assistance from the American Red Cross.
Firefighters from the Floral City, Hernando, Highlands, Kensington, Connell Heights, and Citrus Springs fire stations responded to the fire, along with two rescue units, and the rehab unit from Citrus Springs.
