Inverness, Florida - On Friday, October 6, 2023, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence on E. Clovernook Ln. in Inverness, due to a reported fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene at 6:05 am to find a double wide mobile home fully involved with heavy fire on all sides. A defensive attack was established.
Based on information that had been received, along with the location of the water supply, an additional tanker was sent to the location. Water shuttles were instituted, and crews continued to battle the blaze as additional units arrived on scene.
Searches revealed that no one was inside the home. A Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputy on scene advised firefighters that two people possibly reside at the location due to the agency having previously conducted a welfare check of a known occupant of the residence. The press release stated that officials contacted the occupant’s daughter and an unidentified male who was also possibly living in the home.
When the CCSO arrived on scene, according to the press release, fires were burning in the yard, garbage was visible "everywhere," both inside and outside of the home, and the home was being powered by a generator that was also powering cooking equipment on the patio. The power company arrived on scene and advised officials that the power to the meter was active, but the power was not active past the meter to the main breaker panel.
The fire was brought under control as of 6:28 am. After overhaul and mop up, the last unit cleared the scene at 10:24 am.
The residence was a total loss. No injuries were reported.
The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office arrived on scene and is investigating the fire.
Firefighters from the Hernando, Highlands, Floral City, Kensington, Connell Heights, and Pine Ridge fire stations responded to the fire, along with a safety officer, rescue unit, and the Rehab Unit from Citrus Springs.
