Two Junior Girl Scouts (grades 4 and 5) from Girl Scout Troop 2387 earned their Bronze Award on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, by donating pet oxygen mask kits to five area fire departments.

The Bronze Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Junior can earn. To earn it, a girl scout identifies a community issue she cares about, researches what causes the issue, comes up with a solution, then works with the community to make a plan that brings the solution to life.

The girls donated a Wag'N O2 FurLife pet oxygen mask initiative kit to Citrus County Fire Rescue, and four other area fire departments. The mask kits will be used when a family pet requires oxygen as the result of a fire. The kits were purchased by proceeds from the girls' sales of Girl Scout Cookies.

“We are very fortunate to have the help and generosity of Girl Scout Troop 2387,” said Fire Chief Craig Stevens. "This contribution will make an impact on our community by providing lifesaving aid to pets that are in distress during an emergency."
