Hernando, Florida - At 12:22 am on Monday, May 8, 2023, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence on N. Tumbleweed Trail in Hernando, due to the report of a fire.
An inspection revealed that a single wide mobile home with an attached addition was fully involved with fire, almost completely destroyed, along with a recreational vehicle (RV) parked in the front yard. The fire was spreading to the surrounding trees and fence line. No power was connected to the service pole. Crews began fire extinguishment, and once the fire was under control, searches were completed, with no one found inside the home. The fire was brought under control at 12:37 am, and the last unit cleared the scene at 3:25 am. The residence was a total loss.
Citrus County Sheriff’s Office deputies were on scene and advised firefighters that a neighbor had approached one of the deputies with information that they had security cameras that may have captured people in the area of the fire at the time the fire ignited. Based on this information, the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted with the request to conduct an investigation.
Firefighters from the Hernando, Citrus Springs, Kensington, Connell Heights, Highlands, and Pine Ridge fire stations responded to the scene.
