Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)
Crystal River, Florida - On Monday, April 24, 2023 at 1:15 pm, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a N. Holiday Drive, Crystal River residence due to the report of a fire.
First responders arrived on scene to find an approximately 2,800 square foot single story concrete block residence approximately 50% involved with fire, with a two story wood frame addition that was fully involved with fire, and a vehicle that was also fully involved with fireab, about 10 feet from the front of the residence.
A 360-degree inspection of the property was conducted. The power could not be disconnected due to downed power lines, and there was no external shut off.
The property owner confirmed that all the occupants and pets were accounted for, safe, and out of the residence. Firefighters entered the home to prevent fire progression and also conducted searches to confirm that no one was inside.
The homeowner told fire personnel that the occupants had left the home to go out for lunch a few hours previously, and when they returned home, the back of the truck was on fire, along with the front of the home near the truck. The owner of the truck was also on scene and advised firefighters that the truck had not been used since the previous night.
The fire was brought under control by 2:05 pm, and the last unit cleared the scene at 6:20 pm. No injuries were reported. The scene was turned over to the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office for investigation.
The residence was uninhabitable, so The American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance to the four adults, one child, and two dogs displaced by the fire.
Firefighters from the Connell Heights, Homosassa, DeRosa, Citrus Springs, Sugarmill Woods, Kensington, and Pine Ridge fire stations assisted with the fire, long with a Safety Captain and the Engine 1 crew from the City of Crystal River's fire department.
