Homosassa, Florida - At 1:54 pm, on Wednesday, afternoon March 29, 2023, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a S. Suffolk Terrace, Homosassa residence due to the report of a structure fire.

A rescue unit arrived on scene to find a single wide mobile home 50% involved with fire. First arriving fire units found the home fully involved with fire with multiple exposures threatened by fire. A defensive attack was established on the mobile home. No one was found inside.

Additional fire crews protected exposures behind the home and neighboring properties. Due to the number of structures in danger in the surrounding area, a second alarm was dispatched, requesting additional units to respond. Embers from the tree limbs over the home were falling into neighboring yards and on neighboring homes. Firefighters protected and monitored them for potential fire extension.

The mobile home was a total loss, along with a late model Ford F150 truck, a 15x15-foot wooden shed, and a recreational vehnicle (RV) that had smoke coming the eves.

The exterior of a 35x16-foot metal shed on an adjacent property sustained heat and fire damage to the outside, but when crews made entry inside the shed, it was determined there was no fire extension to the interior.

A property located two houses south of the mobile home fire sustained damage from an approximately 20x20-foot brush and vegetation fire caused by the falling embers, but it sustained no structure damage.

The mobile home fire was brought under control by 2:28 pm, and the last unit cleared the scene at 4:46 pm. The power company responded to the scene to secure power. The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office will conduct an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire.  No injuries were reported.

Firefighters with the Homosassa, Sugarmill Woods, Pine Ridge, Kensington, Connell Heights, Highlands and Citrus Springs fire stations responded to the fire, along with three fire chiefs, a Safety Captain, and the Rehab Unit from the Citrus Springs Fire Station.
