On August 5, 2020, at 12:46 pm, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a residential fire at a S. Columbus St., Beverly Hills residence. Engine 20 from Pine Ridge arrived first on scene to find a 1,900 square foot, single story residence with smoke showing.
The power company was contacted to secure the power. Due to reports of children and pets possibly being inside the home, two firefighters made entry to locate any victims while other firefighters conducted an offensive attack. No residents were inside the home. However, firefighters were able to recover two dogs, one which required resuscitation with a pet oxygen mask. The dogs were turned over to the homeowner, and one was transported by the homeowner to a veterinarian after being resuscitated. Two birds perished in the fire. All residents were accounted for, outside of the residence.
The fire was called under control at 1:02 pm, and crews cleared the scene at 3:22 pm. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross was called to assist the residents, and the Florida State Fire Marshal was called to investigate the fire.
Other fire stations assisting Pine Ride with the fire, included DeRosa, Kensington, Hernando, and Citrus Springs.
