Dunnellon, Florida - At 7:43 am on Monday, December 26, 2022, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to W. Stockholm Ln. in Dunnellon, due to the report of a residential fire. Firefighters arrive on scene to find a single wide mobile home fully involved with fire. The residents had safely evacuated themselves from the home.
A 360 degree inspection of the property revealed no immediate exposure threats, and due to the close proximity of flames, the power could not be immediately secured. A defensive attack was initiated, and when the fire was knocked down, the power was secured by the Safety Captain.
The resident advised firefighters that she was frying french fries when the grease caught fire. She sustained minor injuries. She refused treatment by EMS crews, but transported herself to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. One cat was provided with oxygen therapy, then turned over to the resident.
The fire appears to be accidental and related to cooking. No other injuries were reported. The fire was brought under control as of 8:10 am, and the last unit cleared the scene at 9:49 am. Damages were considered a total loss for the property and its contents. The American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance to the residents.
Firefighters from the DeRosa, Connell Heights, Homosassa, Citrus Springs, Pine Ridge, and Highlands fire stations responded to the scene, along with a Safety Captain.
