Beverly Hills, Florida - On Thursday afternoon, November 3, 2022, at 3:10 pm, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a S. Tyler St., Beverly Hills residence due to the report of a fire. Firefighters arrived on scene to find an approximately 1,700 square foot home, approximately 25% involved with fire.

Firefighters confirmed that all the residents had exited the residence, and contacted the power company to secure the utilities. Crews gained entry to conduct a search and initiate an interior attack. The fire was quickly extinguished in the room of origin, and a dog was found on a bed in a secondary bedroom and safely removed. The fire was under control as of 3:26 pm, and the last unit cleared the scene at 5:28 pm.

One of the occupants informed firefighters that he'd extinguished a cigarette prior to leaving the bedroom. It appeared that the fire originated in the vicinity of the ashtray, which was placed at the foot of the bed against the wall. It is believed that the fire was accidental.

One occupant was evaluated by emergency medical services personnel, but refused to be transported by ambulance to a medical facility for medical care. No other injuries were reported.

Damages to the property and the home's contents were estimated at approximately $77,000. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the six displaced adult occupants and two service dogs.

Firefighters from the Pine Ridge, Kensington and Hernando fire stations, and a Safety Captain responded to the scene to assist with extinguishment of the fire.
