Inverness (Citrus County), Florida - At 11:45 pm on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to an E. Possum Ct. residence in Inverness, due to the report of a fire.
Firefighters arrived at the residence to find an approximately 800 square foot, single wide mobile home, approximately 50% involved with fire.
Crew members secured the power, verified that all occupants had evacuated the residence and made searches to ensure no one remained inside, while interior operations began to knock down the fire, which was determined to be under control at 11:58 pm. The last unit cleared the scene at 1:19 am.
One of the occupants told firefighters that the home was struck by lightning, earlier in the day, and when smoke later filled the residence and fire was noted at the back of the residence he called for help, and all the ocupants exited the home.
The report stated that the home was equipped with smoke detectors; however, they failed to alert the occupants, no injuries were reported, and the residence was deemed a total loss.
