Floral City (Citrus County), Florida - On Tuesday afternoon, September 13, 2022, at 3:15 pm, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a  S. Live Oak Dr., Floral City residence due to a reported fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find an approximately 360 square foot mobile home with heavy smoke showing from the rear. Law enforcement personnel on scene advised firefighters that all the occupants had evacuated the residence.

Power to the structure was secured at the main panel. A power company technician arrived on scene and disconnected the power supply at the meter. The technician informed fire command that the meter had possibly been bypassed, and it could not be reinstalled due to damage and also until a permit is issued to ensure that proper inspections are obtained, and meanwhile, the power would remain disabled. The report stated that the home had several power cords leading to it from the power meter and electric panel. The fire was determined to be electrical in nature.

Meanwhile, crew members searched for fire extension. Debris was found smoldering under the home. No active fire was noted inside the residence, but when an interior wall was exposed, firefighters found that the electrical wiring was damaged and there was heavy fire damage to the interior lumber. The fire was under control as of 3:45 pm, and the last unit cleared the scene at 4:24 pm.

Ventilation was established for smoke removal. A carbon monoxide monitor confirmed that no hazardous levels were present.

The residents advised firefigters that they were asleep when a neighbor alerted them to the heavy smoke conditions in the home.

The report stated that the home was not equipped with smoke detectors, that no injuries were reported, and the American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced occupants.

Firefighters from the Floral City, Highlands and Hernando fire stations responded to the scene, along with a Safety Captain.
