Homosassa (Citrus County), Florida - At 5:10 pm on Thursday afternoon, August 4, 2022, Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) responded to a fire reported at Boulerice Roofing and Supply, Inc, located at 6735 S. Lewdingar Dr. in Homosassa. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a carport fully involved in flames.

The Engine 18 crew from the Sugarmill Woods Fire Station and Battalion Chief 2 arrived on scene simultaneously to find the approximately 20 foot by 20 foot carport that contained roofing materials, LP tanks, and a forklift fully involved in fire. Crew members began protecting several exposures located on the property from fire, which included an office building, several vehicles, and two sheds.

The Engine 3 crew from the Homosassa Fire Station arrived on scene shortly thereafter and established a water supply, which allowed the fire to be attacked/extinguished from three sides, keeping further damage to a minimum.

The carport and its contents, an approximately 12 foot by 8 shed, a Dodge Ram pickup truck, a Ford F250 pickup truck, and a trailer sustained major damage, due to being located within 10 feet of the carport.  A fire hydrant from W. Cardinal St. was used as a water source, which prompted a temporary road closure for crews to safely battle the blaze.

The fire was under control as of 5:26 pm, and the last unit cleared the scene at 7:09 pm. The power company arrived on scene to secure the  power. Damages were estimated at approximately $145,000. No injuries were reported. It appears that the fire ignited under the carport, and the fire was accidental.

Firefighters from the Homosassa, Kensington, Pine Ridge, Connell Heights, and Sugarmill Woods fire stations responded to the scene, along with the Rehab Unit from the Citrus Springs Fire Station.
