Crystal River, Florida - Early Friday morning, July 15, 2022 at 2:24 am, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a mobile home, located on W. Ebbtide Ct. in Crystal River, due to the report of a fire at the residence.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke coming from a corner of the residence. Firefighters initiated an offensive attack on the fire, as well as a 360-degree search of the home for occupants. They were informed by the homeowner that all the occupants had evacuated from the residence.
The homeowner also told firefighters, that prior to their arrival, he had found the fire in the laundry room and attempted to extinguish it using a fire extinguisher. Firefighters located a smoldering pile of clothes in the laundry room, next to the dryer. A water can was used to fully extinguish the smoldering pile, which was removed from the residence, along with the clothes dryer. The rest of the residence was inspected to check if the fire had extended further into the residence, but it had not.
The fire was under control as of 2:57 am, and the last unit cleared the scene at 4:04 am. The fire appears to have started on top of the dryer due to an electrical issue which is believed to be accidental. The power company arrived on scene to secure the power. The homeowner was advised that the power was disconnected throughout the structure, and he should contact a licensed electrician to further assess the damage.
The residence was ventilated to clear the smoke, and the air was monitored throughout the residence, with no health hazards identified. Damages were estimated at approximately $6,000. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters from the Homosassa, DeRosa, and Connell Heights firestations responded to the scene to assist with the fire.
