Homosassa, Florida -  Early Friday morning, April 29, at 2:17 am, Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) responded to The Manah Island in Homosassa, due to the report of a fire that was accessible only by boat.

The Marine 3 Unit from Homosassa, with Battalion Chief 2 on board, launched from the Mason Creek boat ramp, and arrived on scene to find the residence and most of the island fully involved with fire. The fire began to spread to another island, which caused a second structure to be in danger.

Firefighters with Marine 3 and Marine 9 began extinguishing fire at the first structure, and firefighters from Marine 5 and Sugarmill Woods Fire Station began extinguishing the fire on the second island, which was brought under control before any damages occurred to the second structure.

The homeowner arrived on scene and advised firefighters that he did not have insurance, and his son was currently residing at the property.

The power company was contacted to respond to the scene. The fire was under control at 3:42 am, and the last unit cleared the scene at 5:56 am. The structure on The Manah Island was a total loss. No injuries were reported.
