Fire, possibly started by heat lamp on baby chicks, destroys Dunnellon mobile home

Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)

Dunnellon, Florida - At 2:41 am on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence on N. Unicorn Pt. in Dunnellon, due to the report of a fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find a double wide mobile home, fully involved with fire, with a collapsed roof and downed power lines. Brush trucks responded to the fire, due to access issues, and a defensive attack was initiated, using numerous water shuttles. The fire was under control at 3:35 am, and the last unit cleared the scene at 5:46 am. The power company responded to the residece to secure the power. No injuries were reported.
  
The property owner advised firrefighters that he was currently remodeling the home, and in the area where the fire originated, he had a heat lamp directed at baby chicks that were housed in a plastic container. He also stated that he did not have insurance on the home.

Firefighters from the DeRosa, Kensington, Connell Heights, Hernando, Pine Ridge and Citrus Springs fire stations responded to the fire, along with a Safety Captain.
