Three homes destroyed by recent fires in Hernando, Inverness and Floral City

March 10: State Fire Marshall investigating unoccupied Hernando mobile home fire, a total loss


        Hernando, Florida -  On Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 1:37 pm, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to E. Treeline Dr. in Hernando due to the report of a fire. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a single wide mobile home with an addition, fully involved in fire. Firefighters established a defensive attack on the fire. It was determined there was no power to the structure, as the meter had been previously removed by the power company, and there were no occupants inside the residence. The fire was under control at 2:05 pm, and the last unit cleared the scene at 6:21 pm. No injuries were reported. The structure was deemed a total loss.  The scene was turned over to the Florida State Fire Marshal for investigation. 

March 11 - Fire causes estimated $150,000 in damages to Inverness residence

        Inverness, Florida - On Friday, March 11, 2022, at 12:25 am, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to an E. Porter St., Inverness residence, due to the report of a fire. Firefighters arrived to find an approximately 2,500 square foot concrete block home with smoke coming from all the eves. 
        The three occupants of the home had evacuated the residence, without injury, prior to the arrival of firefighters. An offensive attack was initiated, the fire was quickly knocked down, and the structure was investigated for fire extension. Searches were conducted to ensure no residents were still inside the home. The fire was under control at 12:57 am, and the last unit cleared the scene at 2:32 am. 
        The fire appears to have started in the garage and extended into the attic. No injuries were reported. The power was secured at the breaker, and the power company arrived on scene to disconnect power the from the pole. The property had working smoke alarms. Damages were estimated at approximately $150,000. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced residents.

March 13: Family displaced after Floral City fire, home a total loss

        Floral City, Florida - On Sunday, March 13, 2022, at 6:10 pm, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to an E. Shadywoods Ct., Floral City residence due to a reported fire. 
        Firefighters arrived to find an approximately 800 square foot manufactured home with heavy smoke and flames showing.
        The homeowners informed firefighters that all the occupants had already safely evacuated themselves from the home. The fire was knocked down, and no one was found inside the home. The power was secured, and the power company arrived on scene to secure power at the pole. 
        The fire was under control at 6:35 pm, and the last unit cleared the scene at 7:45 pm. No injuries were reported. Firefighters were unable to determine if the property had working smoke alarms at the time of the fire. The structure was deemed a total loss. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced family. 
        The property owner advised firefighters that he'd found one of his children playing with a lighter in the yard, and he then noticed that the house was on fire.
