Floral City, Florida - At 4:20 pm on Sat., Feb. 26, 2022, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to S. Clark Wise Terrace in Floral City, due to the report of a fire. Firefighters arrived to find a two-story wood frame home engulfed in flames that had spread to a passenger truck, camper, surrounding brush and the wood line. Due to the extent and spread of the fire, firefighters established a defensive attack. Units on scene were advised by command of hazards, which included several explosions heard coming from the camper and vehicle.

The perimeter fires were under control by 4:50 pm and the camper and passenger truck fires were under control by 5:12 pm. However, the fire attack remained in defensive mode at the main structure due to heavy fire involvement to the roof.

The property owner confirmed there were no people inside the home, but two canines were still inside. Due to the amount of debris, firefighters were unable to locate the other two dogs. The homeowner said that she had one small dog with her, outside, when she moved her vehicle, and when she returned, the entire home was on fire, and she was unable to remove her other two dogs from the home. The homeowner explained to firefighters that she had a small outside fire which had spread to a pallet next to the home, and the wind had extended the fire to the home’s gable. She also said that the home, truck and camper were not insured.

The power company arrived on scene to secure the power. The fire was under control at 5:54 pm. After extensive mop up, the last unit cleared the scene at 9:16 pm. The home, truck and camper were deemed a total loss. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced homeowner.

Firefighters from the Floral City, Kensington, Pine Ridge, Highlands, Hernando, Sugarmill Woods and Connell Heights fire stations responded to the scene, along with a Safety Captain.
