Beverly Hills, Florida - At 8:56 pm on Friday, February 25, 2022, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to N. Orchis Ter. in Beverly Hills due to the report of a fire. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the front door of a family residence.

The residents met with first responders in the driveway and advised them that everyone was out of the residence, but three cats were still inside the home.

Firefighters conducted an offensive attack on the fire. A team of two made entry into the residence and located the fire in the kitchen. The fire was quickly quickly extinguished, and firefighters began a search of the residence. All the cats were located. However, they were hiding, and the firefighters were unable to remove them from the home.

Power was secured at the main breaker panel, and crews ensured there was no fire extension into the attic space by the use of a thermal imaging camera. Positive pressure ventilation was set up at the front door to remove smoke from the residence.

No injuries were reported. The press release stated that the home had working smoke alarms, and the occupant advised that he was cooking and left the pan unattended when he left the kitchem, and when he returned, the pan was on fire. It appeared that the fire started in the pan on the stove top and traveled up to the cabinets and into the ceiling, according to the press release.

The fire was under control at 9:06 pm, and the last unit cleared the scene at 11:08 pm. The damage was estimated at approximately $35,000. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced residents.

Firefighters from Pine Ridge, Connell Heights, and Citrus Springs fire stations responded to the fire.
