Fire destroys Floral City pole barn with living quarters; one person injured

Floral City, Florida - At 8:14 pm, on Saturday, February 26, 2022, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire on E. Haines Ct. in Floral City, where a 90 foot by 70 foot pole barn with living quarters was found fully involved in flames. 

A defensive attack was established, and all units were advised of a downed power line at the corner of the structure. Due to access issues and the location of the fire, a drafting operation was established, with a portable water tank placed in service to shuttle water to the fire.

One civilian received minor injuries and was evaluated by emergency medical servces at the scene. No further injuries were reported. 

The property owner informed firefighters that people on scene had noticed the fire around a flatbed truck that had a 1,000-gallon diesel tank in the back. The truck and a camper van were inside the pole barn and a John Deere backhoe was outside, next to the structure. The property owner also stated that the structure and its contents were not insured.  

The power company arrived and secured the power. The fire was under control at 10:02 pm. Crews completed an extensive mop-up of the scene. The last unit cleared the scene at 3:17 am. The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office was provided with the required information. The structure and contents were deemed a total loss. 
  
Firefighters from Pine Ridge, Citrus Springs, Hernando, Connell Heights, Homosassa, Sugarmill Woods, Highlands, and Kensingtom fire stations assisted with the fire, along with the rehab unit from Citrus Springs and a mutual aid unit from Hernando County Fire Rescue.
