Homosassa, Florida - On Saturday evening, Jan. 29, at 7:45 pm, firefighters with Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a S. Ceridwen Pt. Homosassa, FL residence due to the report of a fire. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a double wide mobile home with a porch, 75% involved in flames.
Firefighters noted hazards, such as power lines to the left of the home and ammunition heard discharging within the house, and due to these conditions assumed a defensive attack until additional units arrived on scene to provide extinguishment, water, and protection to exposures.
The homeowner advised firefighters that everyone inside the home had been able to exit the residence, and one adult female had sustained minor injuries when she exited the residence. She was transported by emergency medical services to a local hospital. No further injuries were reported to occupants or firefighters on scene, however, one canine was found deceased, inside the home. The dog was removed from the home and transferred to the homeowners.
The fire was deemed under control at 9:34 pm, and the last unit cleared the scene at 2:57 am. The Florida State Fire Marshal was contacted to investigate the fire, and the Red Cross was contacted to assist the four displaced adults and one minor, as the home was a total loss. Withlacoochee Electric arrived on scene to disconnect the power.
Firefighters from the Homosassa, Sugarmill Woods, Pine Ridge, Kensington and Connell Heights fire stations assisted with the fire, along with the Rehab Unit from the Citrus Springs Fire Station.
