Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)
Homosassa, Florida - Early Sunday morning, December 19, at 6:58 am, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to Howard’s Flea Market, located at 6373 S. Suncoast Blvd. (US 19) in Homosassa, due to the report of a recreational vehicle (RV) fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find a camper trailer fully involved with fire and fire spreading from the back corner of the business, threatening another RV. The fire was quickly knocked down to the threatened RV, and firefighters began to extinguish the original camper trailer fire.
No one was found inside the RV on fire; the occupant had evacuated prior to the arrival of firefighters. The RV owner told firefighters that she was inside the RV when the fire started and awakened to the sound of someone honking their vehicle's horn as they drove by. She said she saw the fire behind an oxygen concentrator that was plugged into a wall outlet near the bed. She was able to safely evacuate the RV; a neighbor called 911.
No injuries were reported. The fire was under control at 7:12 am, and the last unit cleared the scene at 9:00 am. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced RV owner.
Firefighters from the Sugarmill Woods, Pine Ridge, Homosassa, and Connell Heights fire stations responded to the fire.
