According to Lindsey Bayer, Director of Operations with the Districts 5 & 24 Medical Examiner Office in Leesburg, Florida, the death of the 73 year-old man - found dead inside a camper in Homosassa, Florida after a fire was extinguished on Sunday, October 17, 2021 - was determined to be a suicide, due to acute carbon monoxide poisoning and thermal injuries from the fire.
The 30 feet-long camper was located at Cedars Lake Mobile Home and RV Park, located at 6400 S. Mason Creek Rd. Firefighters with Citrus County Fire Rescue arrived on scene at 3:18 pm, and the last unit cleared the scene of the fire at 5:41 pm. The camper and a nearby vehicle were destroyed by the fire, and the radiating heat from the fire also damaged two neighboring recreational vehicles (RVs).
As of November 18, the investigation was still ongoing into the origin and cause of the fire by the Florida State Fire Marshal's office.
