Fire causes substantial damage to Inverness mobile home

Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)

Inverness, Florida - Early Sunday morning, October 17, 2021 at approximately 4:08 am, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a fire  that was reported to an E. Dawson Dr., Inverness residence. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a mobile home partially destroyed, with flames coming through the ridge vent. 

The sole occupant of the residence had self-evacuated from the home and advised firefighters there were no other occupants inside the home, which was confirmed by firefighters. The fire was deemed under control at 4:47 am, and the last unit cleared the scene at 7:30 am. No injuries were reported. 

Damages were estimated at approximately $31,950, with the loss estimated at 60%: 40% from fire damage and 20% from heavy heat and smoke damage, with smoke and soot throughout the rest of the residence. According to CCFR, the residence had battery operated smoke alarms which had failed to alert the occupant, for unknown reasons.

The resident's power company arrived on scene to disoonnect the power. The Red Cross was contacted to aid the displaced occupant, and the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene to investigate the fire. Firefighters from the Kensington, Connell Heights, Pine Ridge, Hernando and Highlands fire stations assisted with the fire, along with a Safety Captain.
